NIAS does not have its own lending library but provides a fast and efficient lending request service. Book requests are made from the desktop via the NIAS Library Request System.

The Library staff order books and articles via the national database PiCarta and borrow from the University Library of Amsterdam (UBA) and from other libraries in the Netherlands via Interlibrary (ILL) loan. Books and articles are usually delivered within 1-5 days and Fellows pick up their requested books from the library. The NIAS Library collection is a testimony to all the work that has been done at NIAS, since its establishment in 1970. The collection mainly covers the humanities and social sciences and is made up of publications by NIAS Fellows written as part of their project.

There is a small reference section and the collection also includes books submitted by Fellows as part of their fellowship application as well as books of interest donated to the Library by former fellows. The NIAS Library Catalogue lists the publications in the NIAS Library collection. The NIAS Library does not lend books to researchers outside the Institute. However, anyone who is interested is welcome to visit the reading room.

While the core functionality of the site can be used with a generic account, none of the My Films features or preferences listed below will be accessible until an individual user account is created. The user profile can be accessed from the top navigation by clicking on My Films or from their My Films dashboard. My Account Settings The My Account Settings section allows you to modify individual account preferences. Many of these settings can be set by an administrator as defaults, and then may be overriden at the individual user level.

In addition to basic settings, you may also determine the active page tools you would like to use and set the display order on the view media pages, and opt in and out of monthly new title emails and newsletters. Account settings can be accessed from the top navigation by clicking on My Films or from their My Films dashboard. My Dashboard/My Films Logged in users will have access to the My Films dashboard where they can view a summary of their available resources and easily access any of these features listed below.
