'Well - i think, this is a problem for the BIG companies, like cakewalk, cubase' surely that myriad don have this problem. I make a little search. Its not the exception.

You can download any you want without pay any cent. Really, i worry about myriad (i suppuse big companies have their lawyers) because i love the soft and this things may hurt it. I have thinking from time ago what you can do about this, but really i cant see what to do. Example: I live in Argentina. There are few laws about the topic. If you use ilegal software, or something like this, you will not have any problem (except microsoft windows that personally pays to a organization to controll the big companies).

To use or not ilegal soft is your only, individual decision, because nobody will say anything to you. I know the same happes in difrent countrys. What you say? What i can do? This topic dont matters? Personally i dont use ilegal software, i dont have the 'masterpieces' like sonar and cubase but im happy with melody, but suppose that it is not enough to avoid other to do the same. Microsoft Windows, in its current editions, is registered to a computer's CPU unique ID. I believe that may also be true of recent editions of MS Office. Even so, it may be that an illegal copy is undetectable if the computer never communicates on-line. I believe it is monopoly software - industry leaders for which there are few alternatives - that have the greatest interest in preventing software piracy. That is because the user MUST have that software, or something very much like it.

Every illegal copy is a lost sale. The best that shareware suppliers could do would be to have each registered copy's unique ID encrypted into each saved file. From time to time, software updates would have a list of banned IDs, based on known 'cracks.'

Whenever a banned file is opened in a valid copy, there would be a message. The would prevent pirates from obtaining assistance from registered users. In the case of professionals who must share files, it would be shameful. Sylvain's reply (below) was made at the same time as mine, so I came back and modified my own reply.

It is an interesting subject. I basically agree with Robert_A. Companies that have the greatest interest in preventing piracy are those who are in position of complete monopoly (which is very, very rare), as well as small outsiders in non-monopoly sectors. Major companies in competitive sectors can find a great interest, because the users who cannot afford the market-leading products won't turn to low-cost alternatives if they can find a way to use the former for free. It is a good way to kill their small competitors. About products like ours, people who are using illegal registration codes (most of the time stolen through a credit card fraud) often forget the authors have an Internet access too, and are informed quite quickly about these codes.
